Jacket has substantial wear, with many chips and tears, as well as foxing that has bled through marking the lower board. Newspaper article (The Bronxville Review) laid in, regarding a talk Murphy gave about his travels, mentions inscribee Lucian Kirtland, who chaired the meeting at which Murphy spoke. A conservationist, authority on sea birds and assistant director at the American Museum of Natural History, Murphy wrote this book based on his 1919-1920 scientific expedition to the west coast of Peru. It was called "one of the most important contributions to the natural history of South America," in a review by Witmer Stone, editor of "The Auk: Ornithological Advances." Dust jacket present. The megatransect was a 455-day, 2,000-mile expedition from 1999-2000, in which Fay and his team crossed the Congo Basin on foot in order to conduct an ecological survey of the region. According to the Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz, he was a community leader and a lawyer who fought for the expansion of the secret popular vote and the right of initiative and referendum.
