Pictorial jacket and endpapers, with recipes arranged alphabetically as in the original (with slight variations for linguistic differences). Index, with black and white vignettes throughout. Boards have light dampstaining at tail of spine that does not affect text block, but board edges and text block are toned and stained. Jacket protected by film cover that is aging, discolored and crumbling in places with attendant wear to jacket edges. Former owner's name in ink on leaf with publisher's device. This abridged version of the 1,500-page original French edition contains a lengthy note by editor and translator Louis Colman. It's been said of Dumas that "his love of food was equalled only by his love of women." Dust jacket present. First Edition.
