Harrison once praised Barnstone's work saying, "If there were any justice, which there probably isn't, the world of letters would erect a monument of Willis Barnstone and strew it with fresh wildflowers every day." (Orr and Torrey, p. 208).Barnstone is a Biblical and Gnostic scholar as well as a memoirist, poet, literary critic, and a contemporary of Jorge Luis Borges, with whom he collaborated on a series of translations.
